Understanding the charm of a Hand Knotted Rug

The earliest know record of a hand-knotted rug dates 2,400 years ago. Excavated in 1949 from the grave of a Scythian nobleman in the Pazyryk Valley in Siberia, the carpet was determined to have been woven in the 4th century B.C.

 

How is it possible that a centuries old design piece transcends time and lands happily in the most modern spaces? Beauty, quality and craftsmanship, thats how - because no matter what color, scale origin, or pattern, a quality hand-knotted rug never goes out of style.

Picture taken during our visit to the carpet belt of India, Bhadohi. Two brothers share a common space with their looms and weave during the day after performing their agricultural duties early in the morning. Its a way of life.

 

 

Even the woollen yarns used in the making of hand-knotted rugs are hand spun giving it the uneven look.
